The General Tarleton
An old coaching inn with contemporary comforts, The General Tarleton Inn is in the pretty village of Ferrensby close to both York and Harrogate. Owned and run by John and Claire Topham for the past 12 years, The General Tarleton is constantly evolving but always sticks to the basic philosophy of offering great service and excellent food and drink in a relaxed atmosphere, and if you are staying the night, a comfortable room to rest your head.
The focus is on food
In The General Tarleton kitchen, John heads an experienced and dedicated team. Menus change daily to reflect the seasons and the pick of the catch or crop that day. John gets a call most days from the fishing boats as they return to port and within hours the fish is in the kitchen. Yorkshire has an abundance of excellent suppliers, which The General Tarleton has worked with over the years to obtain the very best seasonal produce.
Lamona Cookbooks
John has worked with Howdens and Lamona to host cookery demonstrations and create two Lamona Cookbooks. Throughout, his aim is always to encourage you to cook more at home, and to make the most of your kitchen and appliances.
