Arts & Crafts Area
The Arts & Crafts area adjoining the main kitchen in Champion House lacked storage space and became easily cluttered. This was both inconvenient and potentially dangerous for residents. Howdens redesigned the area and used kitchen units to create defined zones and storage areas that greatly improved accessibility.
Before Photography
-
01. The old arts and crafts area has no real storage space and easily becomes cluttered and untidy.
01
- 02. The area is spacious and there is ample room to re-plan the kitchen/arts and crafts area to optimise storage space and usability.
- 03. The reverse side of the arts and crafts area features a make shift tea/coffee bar, however it is cluttered, poor aesthetically and could cause a safety issue for wheelchair users.

- 04. The arts and crafts area has been divided from the main kitchen area to create defined zones, but the open plan element is maintained for socialising and resident involvement.
- 05. The make shift tea/coffee bar has been replaced by fitted units set at 223mm plinth height, featuring chrome pull out corner storage for greater accessibility. A glass window has been created in the dividing wall to allow for interaction throughout the dining/kitchen space.
