Solstice walk for local hospice

In Lichfield, the St.Giles Hospice has close links with the local Howdens' depot, where many employees and account holders have benefited from the care it provides - and many have made donations...

Most recently, kitchen designer Joanne Illsley, whose mother was cared for at the hospice, raised over £500 when (dressed as a fairy) she joined 700 others for a nine-mile solstice walk, which raised £70,000 in total.

This money is put to very good use - for example, £20 pays for a therapy session for a patient, £50 provides a bereavement counselling session, and £1000 pays for one day's running of the day hospice, giving specialist care and support to up to 10 patients.
