Supporting a 60 year old scout group

A little over 12 miles south of Bolton is Irlam, home to 1st Cadishead, one of the country's oldest surviving scout groups...

1st Cadishead scout group

In 2014, the group gathered funds and support in an effort to refurbish its scout hut, which has stood on the same site for an impressive 60 years. Stuart Bolton, manager of the Howdens Irlam depot, knew about the project because his two sons are members of the group, and arranged for the depot to donate a kitchen.

The 1st Cadishead was established in 1908, and spent its first decades moving between sites. In 1951 it bought two former prisoner-of-war huts, and established itself near the Irlam train station, where it's still based today. Here's to another 60 years!
