Helping to make a house a home

Howdens Bromborough depot have been working with one of the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) houses, improving the facilities to make residents feel at home...

Ronald McDonald House, Merseyside

The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) have their roots in 1970s America, when the Philadelphia Eagles American Football team and McDonalds area manager joined fundraising forces, and worked towards providing hospital accommodation and facilities for the families of seriously ill children.

There are now RMHC initiatives around the world, and staff at the Howdens Bromborough depot have been working closely with one of them: Arrowe Park House in Merseyside.

The team at Arrowe Park approached the depot in search of support for their kitchen facilities. Howdens donated a range of new appliances for the communal kitchen, helping to make the house a real 'home away from home' for the children and their families who stay with them.

According to Bromborough's depot manager, John Leary, Arrowe Park is not a high-profile cause, and is trying hard to develop support in the local community. After learning more about its vital work, staff at the depot are keen to play their part, and are set to get involved with fundraising events in 2015.
