Many local emergency services rely on charitable donations, and this is one of the areas Howdens is always keen to support...
Emily Barrow and Jemma Ridley of the credit control department have been working tirelessly to raise money for a cause that became very close to their hearts after a tragic loss.
Vicky Dillon, who worked for Howdens for over 10 years, suffered a cardiac arrest while pregnant. As a result, Vicky's son was born prematurely and did not survive, and Vicky continues to need specialist care to help her recover.
Through a variety of fundraising events, Emily, Jemma and other colleagues raised almost £5,000. They donated this to the teams that cared for Vicky and her son - the Northampton General Hospital Gosset Ward and the Central England Rehabilitation Unit - as well as to research charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young.
Emily and Jemma had some fun raising the money. Events they organised included cake sales, games and auctions of managers' car parking spaces. Also, the 'Howdens Sports Evening' had teams competing in all manner of races - from sack races and egg and spoon to 'bean bag on the head' - and the event was topped off with a barbecue and a raffle.
Howdens would like to thank the local businesses who generously donated prizes, and played their part in such an inspirational event.
