Rebuilding a local initiative

Many of us will remember when Manchester Dogs Home hit the national headlines in September 2014, after an arson attack...

The attack led to the deaths of 50 animals and the suffering of many more. The home cares for more than 7,000 dogs a year, relying entirely on public donations, and the public fundraising following the fire exceeded £2 million.

Over the years, Howdens has often donated the kitchens that feature in its brochure photography to charities. Gem Productions, who produce the photography, are based in Manchester and really wanted to help this local initiative. So after the blaze, they suggested contributing one of these kitchens to the rebuilding project - and this soon became an important facility for staff working hard to maintain the home's vital services.
