Rob, supporting Blind Children UK

Helping blind children and young people around the country, Blind Children UK offers family support, rehabilitation, education and helpful technology. Rob Nicolaou, transport manager at Howdens, was keen to help the charity, due to his sister’s ongoing battle with a degenerative eye condition, Retinitis Pigmentosa. She has suffered with this since childhood, experiencing decreased night vision and impaired side vision.

To raise money, Rob ran the London Marathon in April 2016. His target was £1,500 but he finally achieved £1,600 including contributions from Howdens.

He has taken part in various charitable challenges in the past, such as the Berlin Rollerblade Marathon, but this was the first time he’d completed a marathon run - something he’d wanted to do before he turned 50. Training involved up to three runs a week, and by the time Rob crossed the finishing line, he’d covered more than 400 miles in total. A long distance, but worth every step.
