Employees from Howdens Selby and York depots teamed up to compete in the annual St Leonard’s Hospice ‘It’s a Knockout’ tournament...
The depots decided to enter a team after receiving a newsletter from the local charity; and having a number of new depot staff, they saw it as a perfect team building opportunity.
The charity provides specialist palliative care and support for local people with life limiting illnesses. They provide a relaxed and friendly environment and have a team of highly experienced doctors and nurses specialising in a wide range of complementary therapies.
The ‘Howdens Roosters’ were fiercely competitive against the other 17 teams representing local businesses. The competition based on the old TV series was challenging but the Roosters battled hard and ended up winning. All the teams donned costumes, tackled inflatable obstacle courses and were soaked with plenty of foam and water, all for a great cause.
Through the generosity of their account holders and sponsorship money the team raised over £500. This assisted the charity in exceeding the massive £20,000 raised the previous year.
