Haig Housing Trust, Walking With the Wounded and Manchester City Council worked together with BBC DIY SOS: The Big Build last year to provide the housing for Armed Forces veterans in Manchester...
When the DIY SOS team asked for help to complete the show’s biggest ever challenge, the Manchester depot was delighted to get involved. The company kitted out one of the homes with an Inclusive kitchen, a welcome addition to what is now known as Veteran’s Street.
The depot agreed to help for a second time in 2016, this time providing joinery products.
The renovation team had taken on the mammoth task of transforming Canada Street, a run-down road in the city, into new homes for ex-services veterans.
The refurbished street includes 62 properties, disabled parking and a veteran’s community centre with access to support, education and training.
Howdens in Manchester has worked with the DIY SOS team before, providing donations for projects. With this one right on the depot’s doorstep, it was a great opportunity to help a local worthy cause on a local project.
