A Green Kitchen Makeover with Ping

Winner of Masterchef 2014, Ping Coombes wanted a kitchen that could cater to her expanding cookery club, as well as creating a family hub for her husband and kids. From initial design, to delivery, installation and aftercare, discover how Ping’s new kitchen came to life.

A multi-functional family space

Ping wanted a unique kitchen that could become the centrepiece of her home. Her new design had to be bold and reflect her vibrant personality, whilst having plenty of storage and space to whip up meals and spend quality time with her family.

A kitchen for all abilities

As well as being a family hub, Ping’s kitchen needed to work as a professional space where the students at her cookery club could learn how to make delicious Pan-Asian dishes. By choosing Lamona appliances, she could introduce equipment with the latest innovative technologies to produce tasty and consistent results.

Working with Howdens

Ping understood that she needed a trade professional to buy from Howdens and to ensure her kitchen was fitted to the highest possible standard. Rather than seeking a recommendation from friends and family, or approaching her local depot for help finding a fitter of her choice, Ping reconnected with a tradesperson she had worked with on previous projects.

Finding a fitter

Ping had a long-standing relationship with her trade professional, John, and she knew he had the know-how to achieve a robust and lasting fit. John had also worked with Howdens before and was impressed with our product choice, design expertise and depot support – which is why he recommended Howdens to Ping.

A wide choice of products

With thousands of products to choose from and an extensive selection of kitchen designs, Ping felt spoilt for choice when creating her signature kitchen. The Chelford Paintable cabinets that she chose offer a contemporary Shaker design that can be personalised in any shade – a rich emerald for Ping’s home.

The design service

Ping met with kitchen designer, Steve, at Bath depot, who shared his in-depth product knowledge and design insight to bring her vision to life. After understanding her needs, Steve made sure Ping’s design included plenty of storage and bespoke features, like push-to-open cabinets for easy access.

“We changed the details of our kitchen close to 10 times and Steve, our designer, was so patient throughout. He told us we could make changes as many times as we needed to get a design we were completely happy with."

Bringing the design to life

With the design confirmed, Ping’s local Howden depot in Bath began the final stages of her kitchen makeover. From delivery to installation, our experienced depot teams helped to make the renovation stress free for Ping and her family.

The Howdens team in Bath met with Ping one-on-one to make any final adjustments and ensure that she was happy with the design. She was involved in the whole process and left feeling confident with her new kitchen.

Delivery and installation

With stock on-hand ready to be picked, Ping’s new kitchen was delivered swiftly to her home on her desired date. The products arrived and installation was able to start at a time convenient to her and her fitter.

Bespoke features

The stand-out piece in Ping’s design is the white marble quartz counter, which is nearly 4m long. It uses two pieces of stone to create a custom length and was fitted by quartz specialists for a fast, efficient and professional installation.

"Our room has low ceilings, so we encountered some challenges when our trade professional began fitting the tall cabinets. Thanks to some expert advice from Steve, and a bit of determination, our tradesperson was able to achieve a flush fit."
