Choosing the right type of latch/lock

Howdens supplies a variety of options for making homes and commercial properties secure

As the door is the most obvious way into a property, it is the first place a thief will try. If a door is not securely locked, a burglar can either kick or lever it open very easily. It is therefore essential that all external doors are protected securely with a high quality lock, which is embedded into the door for extra strength.

Tubular mortice latches

Tubular mortice latches

A tubular mortice latch can be used in conjunction with either latch, rose or knob handles. Bolt through and quick fit options are available.

Bathroom bolts

Bathroom bolts

Bathroom bolts are operated by a bathroom turn and allow flexibility when fitting a separate rose or knob handle with a latch. Quick fit options are available.

Bathroom locks

Bathroom locks

Bathroom locks are based on a 3 lever lock case, with a deadbolt operated by a bathroom turn instead of a key.

Sashlocks

Sashlocks

Sashlocks have a deadbolt, latch and a key, and can be operated from both sides of the door. Sashlocks are suitable for use with lock handles or a rose handle/mortice knob and an escutcheon.

Deadlocks

Deadlocks

Deadlocks have a deadbolt and a key only, and can be operated from both sides of the door. Deadlocks are often used in conjunction with a nightlatch, to increase security.

Traditional nightlatches

Traditional nightlatches

Are mounted on the surface of the door and are a simple method of opening external doors, where key access is not required on the inside. Ideal for use on entrance doors in multi-residential dwellings.

Double locking nightlatches

Double locking nightlatches

Automatically deadlock when the door is closed. The inside handle can be deadlocked by a turn of the key from the inside, making them ideal for glass panelled doors.

Digital door locks

Digital door locks

Digital door locks offer a convenient method for allowing access to authorised-only users.

Euro/oval profile cylinder locks

Euro/oval profile cylinder locks

Are thumbturn operated and ideal for locations that require controlled access from one direction and easy access from the other or as a double cylinder which operates with both key sides.

Rebate kits

Rebate kits

Use when fitting either a mortice sashlock or deadlock to a pair of doors with rebated meeting stiles (i.e. the doors overlap when closed).

Rim locks
