A Marine Blue Kitchen Makeover With Amy

Embracing a bold palette, this marine blue kitchen makeover with Amy Davies Pereira uses a contemporary tone for an up-to-date take on a classic, shaker cooking space. While redesigning the room to reflect the changing lifestyle of her growing children, Amy chose framed door fronts in our newest blue shade to add a modern spin to her Victorian home. This teal hue sits well within shaker kitchens thanks to its jewelled appearance, while taking influence from the natural world to create a soothing homescape. When combined with a peninsular format and clever cabinetry, Amy's kitchen makeover offers an eclectic setting that meets the demands of her busy family life.

            • Amy's design goals

Created with young kids in mind, Amy had outgrown her previous layout, so the new design required a contemporary style that had a teen-friendly setup.
            • Renewed in blue

With a love of shaker schemes, Amy's new, character-filled cooking space has plenty of room for informal family meals – all in a mood-boosting colour.

            • A colourful classic

For a modern take on shaker, Amy chose Chelford with its wide border and matt finish, in a Marine Blue shade that instantly lifts the spirits.
            • Contrasting counters

Opting for a white quartz counter provides a crisp colour contrast against the rich blue, lightening the palette to keep her compact layout open.
            • Heritage hand pulls

Brass accessories bring a traditional touch to Amy’s new layout and are an authentic addition to the vintage-inspired cupboard doors.
            • A favourite floorplan

Amy had her heart set on a peninsula plan to give her family the counter room and storage they needed in their small space.
            • Switch up seating

Sharing her home with two teenagers inspired Amy to swap a dining table for a built-in breakfast bar that offers a more informal dining experience.
            • Dedicated drinks spot

Introducing a wine cooler to the bar area gives the family space for their favourite drinks while freeing up room in the main fridge.
            • Maximising space

Choosing tall larder units make the most of the full room height. This improves organisation and allows her to add in a compact pantry.
            • Secret storage

Discreet plinth drawers increase the amount of storage for Amy by providing a hidden home for smaller items, like baking trays and dishes.
            • Easy-to-clean floors

With a dog and two cats in the family, hardwearing and stylish vinyl provides an easy to clean surface that will withstand life with four-legged friends.
            • A brighter outlook

Clever under-cupboard lighting illuminates work surfaces to make food prep easier while making Amy’s room feel bright and inviting.
            • Two-in-one food storage

Combining refrigeration and freezing in one unit keeps the room design compact and free of visual clutter, while keeping dinnertime ingredients close at hand.
            • Dinnertime display

With hints of vintage style, a plate rack turns crockery into a decorative feature while freeing up cupboard space for other essentials.
