A Paint to Order Kitchen Makeover With Kate

With a mix of statement shades, this Paint to Order kitchen makeover with Kate shows how a simple shaker design can be transformed with a personalised tone. Her new build home provided a blank canvas to add her stamp with our new Elmbridge and Chilcomb colours, painted to order. It was in need of more character, which is where her classic Elmbridge kitchen could help, with 24 shades for her to choose from. After adding an island for entertaining and extra storage, Kate’s kitchen makeover was complete. Now, thanks to their Howdens designer and a trade professional, she will enjoy a colourful space - brilliant for hosting family and friends.

About Kate

Interior blogger Kate lives with her husband and two children in Lancashire, where she has been working on adding character to her new build home. A fan of colourful designs, Kate has used bold tones to add depth to the decor, which made our new paint to order kitchens her top choice.

Design goals

    Kate's vision

    Replacing her cream scheme with something more colourful, Kate needed a way to add character to her home. She loves to host, so the layout had to work for both cooking and entertaining, with plenty of storage to make the space more useable.

    The final look

    Kate’s vivid, vintage look came from pairing a classic Elmbridge style with Olive and Truffle hues from our new Paint to Order collection. The island offers a spot for socialising, while a larder organises her cooking area so it is easy to use.

    Kate has used shades of green across her home, so, thanks to a custom paint to order colour, olive ticked the box for a bold tone that continues the verdant hue.

The design details

  • Shaker kitchen doors with a grained finish and a truffle-toned brown colour. It also has round, brass cabinet knobs.

    Style up shaker

    Our Elmbridge collection has a timeless, framed design, with decorative detailing adding an ornate border. This adds heritage charm to Kate’s classic interior.

  • Decorative plinths fitted to two sets of shaker cabinetry. The plinths match the green and brown colours of the units.

    Pair together plinths

    Extending character throughout the space, Kate added decorative plinths to her design. They were also ready-painted in colours of her choice to match the units.

  • An olive green kitchen larder cabinet, which has matching door balconies for storage. Inside are oak-effect shelves.

    Built-in balconies

    As a big foodie, Kate loves her new pantry. Using door balconies keeps ingredients organised, while their matching finish continues the green scheme inside.
  • A white bespoke acrylic worktop on a brown-tone kitchen island. The door fronts have a shaker design and brass handles.

    Better with bespoke

    Kate’s designer recommended an acrylic worktop to complement the custom decor. Made to measure, it has few visible joins for a seamless look.

  • A black, integrated induction hob with a built-in extractor. It is fitted in a brown kitchen island in a white worktop.

    Cooking with company

    Fitting an inudction hob with a built-in extractor keeps the area streamlined and free of visual clutter, allowing Kate's custom colours to stay centre stage.

    Look to Lamona

    To kit out her space with the latest tech, Kate chose Lamona appliances. Exclusive to us, they combine style with a durable, long-lasting design.

  • Oak-effect vinyl flooring in a chevron-style layout. It is fitted alongside brown and green kitchen cabinets.

    Fuss-free floorboards

    To recreate the classic look of wood for less, Kate chose our Oake & Gray vinyl. It is hardwearing and water-resistant, making it great for her family household.

  • Antique brass cabinet door knobs on a brown shaker kitchen door. Above the cabinet is a white acrylic worktop.

    Antique accents

    For an authentic heritage touch, she opted for handles with an aged metallic finish. The brass hue also works well with the rich olive and truffle tones.
