Howdens Grimsby depot raising funds for Macmillan

When depot manager Danny Burton and the team at Howdens Grimsby depot heard about local group ‘Friends till the end’ taking on a sponsored cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats, they grabbed the chance to organise a charity golf day to raise money.

Helping to raise funds and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support and The Fire Fighters Charity, the golf day brought in a total of £2,500 in sponsorship and donations. This went a long way towards hitting the £10,000 target of the cycling friends, firefighters Carl Bridge, Darren Pickett and Andy Peart.

They began the challenge in June 2015, in memory of three colleagues who lost their lives to cancer, and others affected by the disease. During the gruelling ride, they pedalled more than 100 miles a day over 10 days - a total of over 1,000 miles by the time they successfully reached John O’Groats. All with the knowledge they had set off with a quarter of their target already reached, thanks to Grimsby’s golf day.
