By understanding how to hinge a door and how to fit kitchen door hinges, you can make your room ready for when your builder arrives. This step-by-step guide will help.

Measure your space

Before choosing a new door, carefully measure your door frame to ensure you and your builder select the right size for your frame.

Remove your old door

If you are having a thicker door installed and use a doorstop, the position of this may need to be adjusted by your builder before they fit your door.

Trim your door

Some doors may need to be trimmed to fit your doorway. Your builder will use a planer or saw to do this.

Allow for a gap

Your builder will leave a 3mm gap between the hinged edge of the door and the lining. This prevents damage and your door from sticking.

Mark your position

Your builder will mark out where the hinges fit on your door and door lining. Builders often use existing hinge positions to prevent unnecessary damage.
