Your complete guide to laminate flooring

Explore how hardwearing laminate flooring in natural tones can transform your home and complete your project.

What is laminate flooring made of?

Laminate planks or tiles are made of tightly bonded layers of manmade materials. A protective overlay gives abrasion resistance, while the decorative layer – created through high-tech printing – implies depth and character. Beneath is the main high density fibre structure with a backing layer for moisture protection.

Laminate flooring considerations

There are a few things to consider when choosing your laminate flooring, from style and colour considerations to room suitability.

Durability of laminate flooring

Laminate flooring is highly durable, however you should check the “Abrasion Class”, or AC to be sure the flooring is up to the job. Low traffic areas such as bedrooms can use an AC rating 1-3, and higher traffic areas like kitchens and hallways should have AC ratings of 4-6.

How much does laminate flooring cost?

Depending on your requirements Laminate is an affordable flooring option when compared to traditional materials. Not only is it more cost effective as a material, but as all our laminates come with click-fit  technology, they are quick for your builder to install.

Colour, choice, texture

Laminates do not have to play by the rules due to the high-quality printing used, giving you a huge choice of colour and material effects. For authentic textures look for registered embossed laminates where the texture matches the decorative layer. Textured laminates have a similar feel to the emulated material while smooth finishes are particularly good for easy cleaning.

How to fit laminate flooring

Laminate flooring is simple and quick to your builder to fit, saving time during a busy project. Here are a few steps your builder will take, or things you can do to make their job easier.

Flooring Adhesives & Sealants

How to waterproof laminate flooring

Laminate flooring can only be made water-resistant when all joins are properly sealed. When sealed laminate flooring can be used in areas where there are likely to be splashes and spills, such as kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms. Your builder will ensure your bathroom laminate flooring has Aqua Block technology and will seal all joins with waterproofing sealant to prevent warping.
Cleaning & Protection Products

How to clean laminate floors

Laminate floor care is simple. Use a soft brush to clear away debris and a damp cloth to wipe down.  While laminate is durable, avoid using abrasive materials for cleaning to avoid scratches. The non-porous surface of laminate flooring is resistant to stains and marks, so your floor should look nearly as good as new.
