Mixed experience

On the positive side, I was initially happy with the design process and the installer they recommended overall did a good job. The kitchen itself looks great. However, I’ve been left quite frustrated with the information I was given when Howden recommended a worktop (which was Dekton). It was positioned as the top-end, highly durable option, so I expected something that would hold up well to normal day-to-day use. Given the kitchen was expensive, I would also have expected clearer advice on any meaningful limitations of the material. Within the first month, a very minor impact (taking a china bowl out of the drawer!) resulted in damage costing £220 to repair. Since then, I’ve realised that edge brittleness is a known characteristic of Dekton (more so than other quartz products) and that it can be difficult to repair. That trade-off between heat resistance and edge durability just isn’t worth it for me, and had that been properly explained at the outset, I would have chosen something else. The issue for me is less about the product itself and more about the recommendation. This was presented as the premium, highly durable option, but without clearly explaining the downsides, which meant I wasn’t really in a position to make a fully informed decision. The response from the sales guy was to brush it off and say Dekton "isn't known to have brittle edges" and it is no worse than any quartz work top. Having looked into it, there is a significant amount of publicly available information, including reviews and demonstrations, that says different. It’s a shame, as the overall kitchen is great, but this has really taken the shine off the experience - and I now have to worry about how I prevent further damage.

I needed some shelving for my kitchen…

I needed some shelving for my kitchen cupboards so went to my local branch in Newport, Isle of Wight, a lady called Leana Knight assisted me and she was so lovely! She was kind and helpful and really efficient. The other workers kept asking her questions about various orders so I presume she is the manager as she is clearly the glue that holds that branch together. She then proceeded to let me know when my order was ready. She is an absolute credit to Howdens and they are lucky to have her as an employee.

Great experience from start to finish

Free design service has been incredibly helpful, and has given me the exact kitchen I wanted. Delivered 5 days after design sign off. Just amazing service. Having the cupboards premade ensured they are sound and reduces my fitting fees. This is the fourth kitchen ive had from Howdens. Never been disappointed, always a great outcome at a great price

We loved our Howdens kitchen in NEW ZEALAND!

We loved our Howdens kitchen on the Isle of Wight so much that when we moved to New Zealand and needed a new kitchen, we asked if we could buy one and ship it over! Jim Mills made the whole process so easy (along with Fred Fairman, the worlds best carpenter (in our opinion!!). Thank you both to you so much, it looks AMAZING and we are beyond grateful for all of your help to make this happen!
