Ended up going with another kitchen supplier

Our builder strongly recommended Tasha from Howdens Hazel Grove as he had worked with her before and we began the kitchen specification process. Our builder was confident that Howdens would be able to provide us with a flat panel door, handle-less kitchen in a neutral colourway well within our budget and for substantially less cost than the high spec German kitchen that we were looking at from a local supplier. This modern style is currently on-trend so we didn't anticipate any issues and were hoping for a seamless, hassle free service due to the great relationship between our builder and Tasha. Tasha came to our home, she was patient and listened to our brief. It was immediately clear that Howdens would not be able to achieve the ceiling high cupboards we were looking for as they only offer 2 heights but she suggested a cost saving work around which was a compromise. She suggested we visited our nearest Howdens Expo in Goole to enable us to see a range of kitchens and help us make our choice. In the meantime, she created a design based on Chiltern Oak. We allocated a day for our Expo trip, a 2 hour trip each way to Goole and is was a worthwhile experience and reassured us that Howdens would be able to provide us with what we are looking based on the units on display and discussions with staff. We chose the Clerkenwell kitchen as it was closest to what we were after. So far so good. We made an appointment with Tasha to discuss the revised design based around the Clerkenwell kitchen. The first face to face design visit took almost 2 hours. Tasha was great, very helpful but even during our meeting the limitations in Howdens' product range became apparent. We could only have black glass in our glazed units. OK we decided we could potentially live with this but were somewhat surprised why black was the only glazing option especially as this was not highlighted during our discussions at Howdens Expo. Then came the phone call to tell us that Howdens had withdrawn some of the Clerkenwell units we had selected with no plans to restock. Tasha made suggestions of alternatives which was helpful but this required another visit to see what the alternatives would look like. Having done some research, we reverted back to Chiltern Oak kitchen as the doors were a simple style even though they were not flat nor handle free but it meant we could have clear glass glazed cupboards and the standard Chiltern range seemed to have a close match to what we were looking for. We went through another kitchen redesign with Tasha, it became apparent that there was an issue in supplying units in one of our chosen colourways and the suggestion was that we could achieve the neutral colour we wanted with a bespoke colour but at a cost. This was one compromise too many. We selected another standard colour as we didn't want to go through another redesign with another range. Then came the process of choosing handles. By this point we were very frustrated due to the limited handle range. We selected the best handle offering for the price calculation. Of course we could source handles elsewhere. By this point, the process became incredibly frustrating with many compromises made at our end. Far from being the hassle free process we had hoped for, it was the opposite. The final shock came when the price was calculated. We sensed even Tasha was shocked when the price was calculated especially for the worktops. Ironically, we had discussed the price paid for (longer and wider) worktops by a friend who had had a kitchen installed at the end of 2025 and Tasha had assured us that this was a ridiculous price and the Howdens worktops would be "significantly less". The cost of our worktops in the Howdens price calculation was £2,000 more than we discussed. Of course we could have sourced the worktops elsewhere as we would have had to for the handles. In the end we went with our local supplier. We have the kitchen spec that we want in the colours that we want and exactly the same quartz worktops that we would have had with the Howdens kitchen and fully installed for the same price as Howdens kitchen and worktop supply price. This makes Howdens uncompetitive. The reasons for three stars is Tasha was wonderful and very helpful. We sensed that she was as frustrated as we were due to different offerings in different ranges, limited options and items not being available. We cannot fault the service we received from Tasha and I am sure she would have gone through more rounds of redesign to try to get a Howdens kitchen that was available had we been willing to persevere. Likewise, we have no issue with the apparent quality of Howdens kitchens. The major issue was Howden's limited offering within each range. We were not confident that supply issues would not arise during installation

Trade counter staff were super and gave correct advice and were very efficient. Great to deal with and always a pleasure. Great complimentary tea/coffee and biscuits. They even have dog treats on hand when I turn up with my dog. What Trade counter offers all that. Hazel Grove branch of Howdens. That's who. Brilliant 👏

I have been fitting a kitchen for an…

I have been fitting a kitchen for an NHS nurse and she is so selfless and lovely. Her experience with the team at Hazel grove branch stockport is exactly the way things should be done. The showroom is fantastic and I would reccomend all branches have proper displays even if they sacrifice ware house space. The women I have been dealing with face to face at the counter on this job have been nothing but helpful. It's a shame there isn't a big! sign telling people where this branch is on the main road. Only problem with Howdens as a fitter is the ridiculous rule on cancelling my account if I don't buy something within a certain and generally short time frame. Also every tradesman I talk to who has an account thinks it is ridiculous too! There are only so many times you can reccomend a customer to Howdens and be embarrassed by a call from your customer enquiring why howdens doesn't have you on thier system as your account is closed. Telling you to just buy a tube of silicone to keep your account open is just rude.

Great patient service with good advice

I’ve been looking for a kitchen and visited many places some with probably a better reputation than howdens. However Julia at hazel grove store has been patient and offered great service with many iterations on our designs where other places wouldn’t because we’re 6m off doing our kitchen. We’re now purchasing this based on this brilliant service!
