Guys at Newton Abbot Howdens went out…
Guys at Newton Abbot Howdens went out of their way to source me some skirting board that had been discontinued. Had been to Torquay branch and they said they couldn't help. Said they didn't have any. couldn't get it from another branch and couldn't get it delivered. Newton Branch source them from a few other branches and got them delivered to me. Great service. Will definitely go there from now on

Howdens in Newton Abbot
Howdens in Newton Abbot were a pleasure to deal with. Design was great and amendments done quickly. Wayne and Neil were most helpful and excess materials were taken back and refunded with no debate. Frankie Parkinson did a tremendous job fitting.

Professional, creative - just perfect.
Joe at Howdens Newton Abbot was fantastic from start to finish. I loved the old-fashioned pen-and-paper approach when he came out, and then seeing it transformed into a stunning computerized design in-store was amazing. Joe was professional, friendly, never pushy, and the cost was far more reasonable than I expected. My fitter, Jim Eustice, was outstanding—his attention to detail and craftsmanship have given me the kitchen of my dreams. From the flooring to the units to the granite worktops, everything is perfect. Absolutely delighted!

Poor product quality, no accountability, and unprofessional service from Howdens
I purchased a Howdens kitchen in 2023 via one of their approved fitters, with installation completed in August. Within six months, several cupboard doors began to bow significantly—causing doors to rub, misalign, and no longer close properly (including the fridge). The overall aesthetic has also suffered badly, making the kitchen look worn and uneven despite being less than two years old. I reported the issue to Howdens and escalated through my local branch and head office. I was given conflicting and inconsistent explanations—including overloading, a faulty batch, and later “high humidity,” based on a single reading taken on a rainy day. This explanation is particularly unconvincing given the kitchen is newly renovated, includes proper ventilation, and shows no signs of damp or mould. At no point was I made aware of any specific humidity requirements for the doors. Throughout this experience, Howdens’ communication has been unprofessional and frustrating. I’ve been passed between departments, left waiting for responses, and repeatedly given contradictory information. It’s felt like a deliberate runaround rather than any genuine attempt to resolve the issue. Howdens eventually offered to replace 10 of the worst-affected doors like-for-like as a one-off “goodwill gesture”—but without accepting any responsibility and with no assurance that the replacements wouldn’t suffer the same issue. I declined this, as it did not represent a genuine or lasting resolution. Worse still, Howdens now claim I have no consumer rights because the kitchen was purchased via my fitter’s trade account—even though I dealt directly with Howdens staff for design, product selection, and all correspondence. This trade-only model appears to be used as a loophole to avoid accountability and undermine consumer protections. I have taken legal advice, but pursuing the matter further isn’t proportionate to the value of the claim. I believe Howdens rely on this imbalance to discourage complaints and avoid responsibility for defective products. Overall, I’ve been left with a kitchen that is both functionally and visually substandard, and no meaningful support from the company that supplied it. I would urge anyone considering a Howdens kitchen to think very carefully and fully understand the risks of their trade-only sales model.
