New dishwasher didn't work but Howdens arranged engineer who resolved
Brand new dishwasher didn't work - I was distressed as unpaid time off work for installation. To their credit, Howdens team (M, L and S) pulled out all the stops, arranged engineer and kindly rang to check ok. Engineer resolved issue. Thank you Howdens :)

Generally an ok experience but a lack of transparency
Generally an ok experience, my issue is with the level of transparency/obfuscation of what they have and what it costs. We ordered extra tall units, but what came was a normal unit with a separate 18cm box to be placed on top, which is totally useless dead space. We have 6 of these now for the next 20 years. We weren't aware of this on ordering, and there is nothing that you can see in brochure or online that showed this. Howdens competitors have proper tall units with usable space to the top, but howdens won't highlight their deficiency. Tall units have two doors clamped together, which we were aware of, but until you get them you are not aware of the big visible gap you can see between them. You can't get plans until you put down a deposit; you then get an itemised costing sheet which does not provide number of units or a unit price for any item, just a cost, so is difficult to understand and reconcile, especially when it includes all the panels and extras among the units you are aware of, all so they can obfuscate the actual price you are paying per item to make it more difficult for any kind of comparison. This is obvious and deliberate obfuscation of information, which comes out of fear of losing business to other competitors, rather then them being able to stand by the quality of their products and service, which perhaps tells you what they actually think of their own service. If I had to do it again, I would take the time to design it myself with a supply only company where you can clearly see the exact layout, inside and out, of cupboards, drawers and other accessories, and have much more control on individual item pricing and the overall cost.
