Induction with extractor

Induction

Featuring a flat, easy-clean design, induction devices have a minimal look that suits contemporary themes. They work by creating a magnetic field that heats the pan, rather than the surface, making it safer and more energy-efficient than all other types. Only compatible pans made from iron or steel can be used, so you may need to upgrade your cookware when choosing this device.

Ceramic

A stylish and convenient choice, ceramic is popular as it is powered by electric and has a smooth surface that is simple to wipe clean. This equipment can take a little longer to heat up when compared to other models, however it works with all types of cookware, so no costly upgrades are required on pots and pans.

Gas

Gas cooktops have a classic look and will deliver instant heat that is easy to control for precision cooking. A versatile option that can be used with any pan, they come with burners and pan supports that can make them trickier to clean. This device needs a mains gas supply to work, and should always be installed by a registered gas installer.

Solid plate

A solid plate cooktop is the most affordable type of stove available, making it a sound option for those on a budget, or for landlords with student lets or rental properties. Easy to use, they work by transferring heat from the sealed plates to the pans. Although this can take some time to heat, it will result in powerful and even cooking – great for stews and casseroles.

What are the different fuel types?

Gas

Offering immediate access to heat by producing flames, gas stoves are great for creating speedy, delicious meals. They can be modified by a registered gas installer to run on Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), if a mains supply has not been installed. LPG is also more efficient and can help reduce household bills.

Electric

Running on electric, ceramic, induction, and solid plate stoves are a versatile option that can be fitted into a variety of properties and layouts. The cost of electric also tends to be cheaper to run than gas and is a more sustainable choice for those that are eco-conscious.

What to consider during planning?

Burners and zones

The number of burners or zones on your stove will depend on your household size and how adventurous you are when cooking. Our selection includes domino designs, and five burner options with specialist wok burners that are great for aromatic stir-frys.

Size

From space-saving, 30cm domino versions that are practical for smaller rooms, to options that are nearly a metre wide to accommodate multiple pans, there are a variety of sizes in our collection to suit any space and layout.

Cooker hood compatibility

When choosing a new cooktop, it is important to make sure that it is the same size or smaller than the hood. This will ensure all smoke, heat, and odours can be efficiently whisked away for a cleaner environment.

Hot zone clearance

A hot zone is the area around a stove that gets hot whilst cooking. To protect surrounding furniture, there should be a gap between the cooktop and hood that spans from 65cm to 75cm, depending on the model. There should also be at least a 5cm space at the back, and a minimum 30cm gap on either side for ventilation.

Hob placement

Installing a new stove requires careful thinking when adding to a layout. If you want it fitted on top of an oven, then a gap of 2.5cm between the two devices is required, so that air can circulate. If you want it above a drawer unit, the top drawer may need to be false to allow enough clearance, and a separator plate installed.

Cookware

If you have chosen an induction option, then you may need to update your cookware to those with cast iron and steel bases. This will make it easier for the device to detect the area to heat, helping to speed up cooking times and reduce noise during use – great for open-plan areas.
