How to plan an inclusive kitchen

Adapted kitchens

An adapted kitchen is designed so anyone can use it independently, which is best for households with mixed abilities or multi-generational homes. Things to consider during the planning stage include drawer storage to make items easier to access, easy-grip handles for extra purchase, and devices that include safety features, like child lock or automatic power down.

Functional kitchens

Our products and accessories ensure any kitchen is usable and functional, which is important when planning a space for those with limited mobility. We recommend increasing floor space, where possible, so it is easier to manoeuvre, wall-mounted cupboards will allow you to get closer to preparation areas, and flush-fitting devices will be easier to clean.

Disabled access kitchens

Making a room fully accessible is the best approach when planning a kitchen for disabled individuals. Factoring in rise and fall counters will allow the height of a surface to be adjusted, so it is within easy reach. Larger kickboards of 223mm high will provide ample room for wheelchair footplates, while contrasting features, like handgrips, will benefit the visually impaired.
