A Bedroom Makeover With Jade and James

With a design that stays true to their Victorian home, this fitted bedroom makeover shows how Jade and James transformed a dated area into a tranquil place. Our shaker-style Bridgemere matched the period aesthetic of the property, while the shade sets the scene for sleeping. With plenty of practical storage to eliminate clutter, including floor-to-ceiling wardrobes, this bedroom inspiration demonstrates how their bedroom has become a centre of relaxation.

            About Jade and James

After buying their first home, Jade and James were excited to put their own stamp on the Victorian terrace. Balancing characterful design with contemporary storage was their aim and, as their trade professional was a Howdens regular, the couple knew they could bring their look to life.

The couple wanted to preserve their property’s period charm with a timeless design. However, the existing layout didn’t make the most of its size. With the right storage to combat clutter, Jade and James could create a serene sleeping space.

              The final look

The classic, shaker style of Bridgemere creates a cohesive look with their home.  Using storage like floor-to-ceiling wardrobes and bedside tables maximise the space, making it calm and clutter-free.

“We chose Howdens because they know what they are doing and have done it a million times before. They know the right questions to ask and then just crack on with the job.”

            The design details

            • Shaker star

Bridgemere is inspired by heritage interiors – a sophisticated shaker that injects instant character. It’s great for a period property, lasting as trends come and go.
            • Understated shades

The couple chose porcelain for a crisp, calming palette – a great pairing for early starts and tranquil evenings. It also makes a brilliant blank canvas to customise.
            • Custom closet

Pairing tall units with compact top cupboards creates bespoke wardrobes that maximises the room’s height while saving floor space.
            • Add accessories

Shelving and drawers turn the wardrobe into a coordinated closet, so the couple can easily find what they need. It also means no clutter when climbing into bed.
            • Access all areas

Pull-down rails provide space for hanging trousers and other garments, making it easy for the couple to grab their outfits for the day ahead.
            • Bedroom basics

A practical place for storage, bedside tables also balance the design, bringing symmetry to this classic space. Internal organisers ensure drawers stay tidy.
            • Fur-friendly floors

Replacing their tired carpet, the couple opted for Oake & Gray vinyl. It complements their scheme and is easy to clean – crucial with their cats.
            • Making an entrance

The panelled design of our Burford door offers a match for the framed style of their bedroom furniture. Painted in black, it contrasts the room’s pale hues.
            • Wonder walls

The couple’s designer recommended using mouldings to create statement panelling. A firm favourite, it adds decorative detail and a touch of colour.
            • Bold as brass

Brass hardware brings a warm glow to the porcelain palette. This timeless metallic tone matches the heritage aesthetic of the space, adding hints of high-end luxury.

            Jade

“Our favourite design feature is the multiple sections and shelves in the wardrobes. It’s all sectioned out, which means we can make the most of the space.”
