A Dining Room Makeover With Sophie

Transforming an outdated layout into a kitchen-diner, this dining room makeover with Sophie is full of relaxed Scandi style made for family mealtimes. Passionate about interior design, Sophie lives in a 1920s semi-detached house near York with her partner and daughter. Removing a wall between the cooking and dining areas opened-up their home and created space for a bespoke table and plenty of storage. The result is a soothing design made for everyday meals that is brimming with dining room inspiration.

            About Sophie

Sophie's old dining room was dark and disconnected from her cooking space, making it harder to gather during family mealtimes. With the help of Howdens products, Sophie was able to create a kitchen diner that matched her scandi style.

            The design detials

            • Floor-to-ceiling storage

To maximise storage in her dining area, Sophie opted for tall, tower units. These hold everything from wine to glassware for a tidy setup.
            • Easy-access areas

Sophie is a big fan of drawers for keeping clutter at bay, so added these to her diner to keep tableware and craft supplies within easy reach.
            • Designed from inside

When it comes to school runs, a tight schedule is important to the family. A larder pantry keeps breakfast supplies close for simple morning routines.
            • On-trend accents

Matching black handgrips allow Sophie to coordinate her dining room with the cooking area. A dramatic touch - it takes the room from day to night.
            • Custom-made furniture

A bespoke table, made from solid-wood surfaces, is Sophie's favourite feature. This provides a focal point for family meals and get-togethers.
            • Decorative details

To extend Sophie’s Scandi style, tongue-and-groove wall panels are used to decorate the space. This adds a rustic charm that can be repainted over time.
