How to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

Utterly fed up with trying to obtain a quote from Howdens, Ross on Wye. The unbelievable inefficiency began with an online request for a free on site kitchen design appointment. Howdens promise a response with 24 hours. It doesn't happen. Tried Hereford & Ross Howdens. Chased by email. Took a week to arrange property visit. On a positive note, the representative from Ross, Steve, who stepped in to cover appointment at short notice due to a colleague's sickness absence, was very good. Professional, courteous and quick to appreciate what we wanted. Another delay to get an appointment, go through the design and obtain a quote. Finally met with Steve on 28/1/26, went through excellent design BUT quote still not available. Unlike other well-known kitchen design businesses, Howden's IT works at snail's pace and does not cost as it builds design. The loss of employee productivity occasioned by the inefficiency is clearly significant. Not to mention the potential customers' time and patience. We were promised the quote would be emailed very quickly after we left the appointment on 28/1/26. We are still waiting as of 30/1/26 inspite of chasing by email on 29/1/26. All other suppliers asked to quote did so quickly and without chasing. Let's be clear: this is a management issue rather than the designer. There is demonstrably inadequate staffing and business support for the demand. There's no point meeting with customers if Howdens cannot supply the objective of the meeting, a kitchen design and quote. In a tough and highly competitive environment, can Howdens afford to engender this level of customer disengagement?

We bought a kitchen from the branch in Oldham, the staff were very professional and efficient, we were having the kitchen fitted in our new home in Ross on Wye. We had a few problems with the fitting, errors on my part, this meant we had to go to the Ross branch for a few bits and pieces and advice. Jimmy and the staff were absolutely brilliant they bent over backwards to help even though there was no commission in the transaction for them. Wonderful service, I would recommend them to anyone looking for a new kitchen.

Great Team and exceptional Customer Service

Thank you to the team at Howdens for supporting and guiding us through our kitchen design and delivery. Steve went above and beyond in ensuring we had the right design for our kitchen and utility room. Couple of minor defects on products were literally replaced on the same day. Cannot fault the customer service from the delivery driver, to the manager Paul and a big thanks to Steve for great design, communications and above all patience😀

Fantastic experience - kitchen design service

Amazing service provided by Steve at Howdens in Ross on Wye with our recent kitchen renovation. He was patient and responsive throughout the process and came up with a fantastic design for us. The kitchen itself is also excellent quality so, all in all, we would highly recommend Howdens at Ross on Wye.
